Savory Tamari Tofu Lettuce Wraps
Ingredients
- 1 pound extra-firm or super firm tofu
- 1 cup Thai & True Pad Thai Tamari Sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- A few twists of sea salt and black pepper
- Butter lettuce, for serving
- Sliced scallions, for serving
- Shredded carrot, for serving
- Toasted sesame seeds, for serving
Instructions
- Drain and press the tofu between a few layers of paper towels to remove as much water as possible. You can set something heavy, like a cast iron skillet, on top of the wrapped tofu to encourage more liquid to release.
- Pour the Thai & True Pad Thai Tamari Sauce into a shallow dish. Add the sesame oil, garlic, sea salt and black pepper.
- Dice the tofu into 1-inch cubes and place the pieces in the dish to soak in the marinade. Gently flip the tofu pieces so that all sides can absorb the flavors. Allow the tofu to marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Leaving excess marinade behind, arrange the tofu pieces in a single layer in your air fryer. Set the heat to 400F degrees and air fry the tofu for about 15 minutes, pausing to shake the basket a couple of times. When done, the tofu will be golden brown and slightly crisp on the edges. Note: you may have to work in batches to air fry the tofu in a single layer. Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket, otherwise the tofu won’t crisp properly.
- Meanwhile, you can repurpose your leftover marinade into a drizzling sauce. Transfer the marinade to a small pan and simmer over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until reduced and thickened slightly. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
- When ready to serve, arrange a few butter lettuce leaves on each plate. Divide the tofu between the leaves and top with sliced scallions, shredded carrot, and sesame seeds. Drizzle with the tamari sauce and enjoy.
